Poetry Project: Where are you from?
Where are you from?
You don’t have to be a poet to write a poem so whether you’ve never written a poem before or are a budding poet why not have a go and get involved in this exciting creative project.
One of our creative tutors Bryan, is gathering poems starting with the phrase ‘I am from…’
The aim is to form a collection that reflects the lives of the people who write them, their diversity, traditions and life experiences.
As you can see in the examples, Bryan will produce a two-tone image of your photograph to create a background for your poem, and then put together a collection of the finished artworks in a book and exhibition to create opportunities to raise funds for CCA
We are looking for poems that are up to 16 lines long and begin with ‘I am from….’
How your poem continues is up to you, we have included some examples for inspiration and a few ideas you might like to consider below
· We are from our family, and its history, the food we eat, the songs we sing, the houses we live in and our family traditions so you may want to base your poem on one of these themes
· You may like to describe people, places, things that are important to you, your own experiences, a member of your family or a favourite place
The possibilities are endless!
You can send your poem (in word or pdf format) to iamfrompoetry@gmail.com along with a jpeg photograph of yourself. If you are unable to provide a selfie, one of CCA’s photographers will be happy to take your portrait. If you don’t want to be recognised, talk to us about how we can disguise your image or maybe use a silhouette.
The deadline for contributions is the 1st March.
We look forward to receiving your poems.
